A rope swing can be made by attaching a rope to a rock overhanging a dark pit, which must be crossed during the events of the Underground Pass quest in order to progress through the dungeon of the same name. There is no Agility level requirement to swing on the rope, and a successful crossing does not grant any experience.
Upon using a rope on one of the overhanging rocks, a brief animation will play of the adventurer throwing aloft the rope to create the swing (briefly wielding the throwing rope animation item while doing so). The rope will be lost during the crossing, whether the player makes it to the other side or not, meaning a new one must be brought for each repeated attempt or future visit. This is in contrast to the small water crossing immediately to the south, which features a permanently attached rope swing that can be crossed eastwards back towards West Ardougne (but not westwards in the direction of Tirannwn).
If the player fails to make the swing across, they will fall into the dark pit and land in the north-eastern corner of a rocky subcavern below, taking up to 14 damage in the process. They will then have to follow the winding path towards the north-western corner of the cavern, climbing over multiple rockslides along the way. A rock may be picked up from one of the two spawns along the way as a souvenir. The pile of rocks at the end of the path can then be climbed up to return to the very beginning of the Underground Pass, clambering out of the cave due west of the entrance.
A hint on how to cross the dark pit is inscribed on the second stone tablet one can encounter within the tunnel, which reads: "(...) when all hope begins to fade / look above and use nature / as your aid".

The chance to successfully swing over the pit is about 39% at level 1, increasing to a 100% chance at level 78.[1]
