The pyre fox is a creature found in the Avium Savannah, south-east of the Hunters' Guild, that players can capture with the Hunter skill at level 57 by using a deadfall trap. Setting up a deadfall trap requires a knife and logs, and optionally baiting it with a jerboa tail. It is recommended to bring an axe as there are trees nearby.
Pyre foxes are hunted most for their fox furs, which are required to make small meat pouches. They may be assigned as a hunters' rumours task by Guild Hunters Gilman, Cervus, or Ornus.

The hunting technique is the same as for other deadfall trapping. Players must bring a knife and logs to the hunting spot location. By clicking on a boulder, the player will create a deadfall trap. Once the pyre fox walks into the trap the player needs to dismantle the trap in order to get rewarded with the loot and Hunter experience.
It is advised to bring an axe to the hunter area, since the player could cut trees for an unlimited supply of logs while hunting these creatures. Equipping any Kandarin Headgear will provide two logs per tree chopped, reducing how much woodcutting needs to be done.
Strategies
While doing rumour tasks, craft 4 fox fur with a needle and thread into a small meat pouch. Then you can high alch it for 1800 gp each for some profit on the task. This also creates space in your inventory, even more by filling meat into a large meat pouch. This way you can pick up fox fur dropped by other players for more profit.
Alternatively, the fox furs themselves may be worth storing in a large fur pouch (stores up to 28 furs) and selling on the Grand Exchange, as each fox fur is currently worth 3,515 coins.

Trivia
- Pyre foxes were originally going to be named fennec foxes, but this was changed during development, likely to distinguish them from the non-interactive fennec fox.
- A remnant of this original name can still be seen in-game; running out of raw pyre fox while cooking them gives the message You don't have any more fennec fox to cook.
