Milk samples are samples of bad-tasting milk obtained from Cassius during The Ides of Milk, which the player must drink on two separate occasions. Upon drinking the first sample, the player will take 1 poison damage, but the player will not be poisoned. This will not kill the player if they have only 1 Hitpoint when drinking the sample.
Despite misconceptions, the milk sample is simply just cow milk.[1] Although Cassius doesn't own any cattle besides his bull Brutus, it is implied in the quest that he was stealing milk from the Groats' cow herd.[2] Brutus' aggression was disturbing the herd and causing their milk to taste bad, which Cassius says is the unique flavour he was trying to sell.[3]
