Menaphite Thugs can be found at the southern end of Pollnivneach. They will always reward 137.5 Thieving experience and 60 coins for each successful pickpocket. They are the lowest ranked members of the Menaphite gang which controls the southern half of Pollnivneach and is constantly at war with the Bandits.

They are commonly used by players to train the Thieving skill because upon completion of The Feud quest, players may use a blackjack to knock them out and then pickpocket them (up to 260,000 experience can be gained per hour this way, resulting in 218,920 GP per hour with the rogues outfit). This requires a Thieving level of 65 or higher. Knocking out and pickpocketing one is a requirement for the hard Desert Diary.

Blackjacking

Tips

It may be helpful to turn on Single mouse button mode and set NPC attack options to 'Hidden' in settings to reduce the chances of mis-clicking.
Players should click Pickpocket the first time once they hear the blackjack sound effect, and click Pickpocket the second time the instant the exp drop for the first pickpocket appears on screen (or, alternatively, when 'You pick the Menaphite's pocket.' appears in the chatlog). This timing is more precise than going by watching animations.
It is recommended to have a full inventory (e.g. by using inventory blocking food such as wines, stews, or Saradomin brews with vial smashing disabled) in order to eliminate the possibility of getting stunned by the Menaphite Thug while pickpocketing. The time saved from avoiding being stunned will significantly increase experience rates.
When a knock-out attempt fails, you should immediately try to knock-out the Thug again until you succeed, as this resets the Thug's aggression. With a full inventory, attempting another pickpocket will also reset aggression. If a Menaphite Thug does manage to get into combat with the player, either get him stuck on an object in the room and then blackjack him again, or run away and come back.
Bring noted food and get it un-noted at the Banknote Exchange Merchant for 5 coins each, located near the general store icon. Faisal the Barman also sells jugs of wine, but only stocks 13 at a time.
Gloves of silence, dodgy necklace, and the Arceuus spell Shadow Veil have no effect when blackjacking Menaphite Thugs.

Pickpocketing

While Menaphite thugs are mostly used for training with blackjacking, they can be pickpocketed normally with a regular chance to fail that is affected by the gloves of silence, Ardougne Diary, and thieving cape. This chance will also be rolled if the player accidentally pickpockets a thug while blackjacking when it is not stunned.
