Humphrey Dumphrey is a fragile egg of unknown parentage, though most closely resembling a jaguar egg, and the best friend of Alan. In the Scrambled! quest, the player is tasked with babysitting Humphrey while Alan is away preparing a feast. After the quest, he can be obtained as a pet by talking to him at Tal Teok.
Humphrey goes by many aliases, and every character seems to know him by a different name. After the quest, however, the player may choose to collect him at which point he identifies himself simply as "Egg."
Egg can be interacted with, though conversations with him tend to be one-sided, perhaps due to his shy nature and reluctance to come out of his shell. Egg generally maintains a sunny disposition, smiling at all times, but seems to grimace when spoken to.
He may also be held carefully in both hands. The player runs with a unique animation when wielding him, apparently taking extra precautions not to drop him, though he also functions as a crush weapon with the player raising him up and smashing him down on their enemies.
Egg will happily live in the cat basket or menagerie of a player-owned house. When dropped inside a house, he will responsibly stay in his spot, patiently waiting for the player to come back.
He may also be used as a substitute for a player to open the doors in the Waterbirth Island Dungeon, similarly to the pet rock.
Despite being a pet, Egg is not lost on death, and instead loyally waits at the player's grave. If Egg is dropped he will wait at Tal Teok, the temple in the north of Tal Teklan.

Trivia
- The idle, walking, and running animations for the item are based on those used for the pet rock, while the attacking and defending animations are unique to Humphrey Dumphrey.[1]
