The assassins are encountered at the start of the quest While Guthix Sleeps. These assassins are part of a large spy network managed by Lucien and are wearing a lighter colour of armour, similar to that of the Shady stranger. Whilst the player goes upstairs into the instanced area and talks to Thaerisk, two assassins spawn near the ladder and attack using Ranged Combat. One assassin will attack the player whilst the other will attack Thaerisk. There is no need to save Thaerisk as he cannot die during the encounter, and his magic attacks can easily kill the assassin. Both assassins have low defence, especially with melee and magic attacks.

Special Attacks

Every 12 seconds (or 20 ticks equivalent), one of the assassins will yell Now!, launching a glowing arrow which deals between 21 to 40 damage if not protected against. At the same time, the other assassin will yell, I'm on it! and teleport to the player, dealing up to 72 damage via the dragon dagger's special attack, and then yelling,Nothing personal, adventurer! Both of these special attacks are capable of inflicting a total of 105+ damage in one tick if not prayed against correctly.

To avoid these two simultaneous attacks, once the glowing arrow hits, immediately switch to Protect from Melee to avoid all damage from the dragon dagger's special attack. Afterward, switch back to Protect from Ranged and focus back on the assassins. In addition, both assassins can inflict poison damage (dealing up to 6 hitpoints every few seconds) with either their ranged or melee special attacks, thus it is important to bring items that cure poison.

Changes

Date Changes
24 July 2024
(Update)
  • The combat level of the assassins were increased from 102 to 167.
  • The hitpoints of the assassins were increased from 85 to 275.

Trivia

  • The glowing arrow special attack looks similar to Arianwyn's orange arrow attack, though their mechanics differ.
  • The assassin's act of teleporting to the player before exclaiming "Nothing personal, adventurer!" is a reference to a copypasta.
  • There was previously a bug where the player could not attack the second assassin that is locked onto Thaerisk. The only solution to this was to wait for Thaerisk to kill that assassin. This was fixed in an unknown update.
