Woodcutting

Move from quick early logs into either Forestry groups, profit logs, or low-attention trees.

QUICK WIN

A better axe is the cleanest upgrade; you can often use one before you can equip it.

UNDERSTANDING WOODCUTTING

Learn the system before you optimise the loop.

Woodcutting is a gathering skill with several viable routes. The best method is not automatically the one with the largest experience-rate number: startup time, travel, real input prices, useful outputs, and the amount of attention you can sustain all belong in the decision.

This guide treats levels as unlocks rather than a single uninterrupted race to 99. Use the route below as a strong default, then switch when a quest, diary, equipment upgrade, or account goal makes another method more valuable to you.

01

A Woodcutting roll compares your level, axe, tree, and applicable bonuses. Better axes increase success rate even before you can equip them, provided you can use them.

02

Most trees are shared resources under Forestry behaviour, making populated locations useful instead of automatically harmful.

03

Banking logs, dropping them, or using storage changes the true rate. Decide whether the output is worth the travel before starting.

04

Forestry events add rewards and social play but make peak hourly rates less predictable than a fixed private route.

LEVEL-BY-LEVEL METHOD FINDER

This is the working core of the guide: source-backed training sections filtered by current level and account type, with full rates, quantities, requirements, setup notes, and method tables kept beside their revision.

FOUR EDITORIAL STARTING POINTS

Shortlisted routes with executable instructions.

Use the finder above for the complete method library. These four routes are the fan-guide shortlist: each includes its setup, repeatable sequence, realistic rate band, and most important failure point.

01

35–65MEDIUM ATTENTION

Teak trees, conventional

34k–90k XP/hr
BEST FOR

Fast uncomplicated mid-levels

ECONOMY

Low profit if dropped

LOCATION

Fossil Island, Ape Atoll, or Prifddinas

REQUIREMENTS

Best usable axe and access to a dense teak location

INVENTORY / LOADOUT

Axe, Forestry kit/rations if used, teleport

EXECUTION
  1. Stand between multiple teaks to minimise movement after depletion.
  2. Drop logs in batches or bank only if the route remains short.
  3. Participate in nearby Forestry events when their rewards justify the interruption.
02

65–99MEDIUM ATTENTION

Sulliusceps

65k–110k XP/hr
BEST FOR

Strong XP without tick manipulation

ECONOMY

Fossils and mushrooms

LOCATION

Fossil Island mushroom forest

REQUIREMENTS

Bone Voyage, food, route knowledge

INVENTORY / LOADOUT

Best axe, food, rake, antidote/serum as needed, prayer or tank gear

EXECUTION
  1. Follow the fixed rotation between available sulliuscep caps.
  2. Clear or navigate obstacles and use the safe route rather than improvising.
  3. Bank fossils and valuable mushrooms when the route naturally returns near storage.
03

90–99LOW ATTENTION

Redwoods

55k–75k XP/hr
BEST FOR

Long low-attention intervals

ECONOMY

Moderate log value

LOCATION

Woodcutting Guild or Farming Guild

REQUIREMENTS

90 Woodcutting and guild/area access

INVENTORY / LOADOUT

Dragon/crystal axe, Forestry kit and rations if desired

EXECUTION
  1. Choose a section with easy access to several cut points.
  2. Bank logs when the nearby deposit makes the time cost small.
  3. Use notifications responsibly; the tree provides long actions but still requires attention.
04

35–99HIGH ATTENTION

Tick-manipulated teaks

93k–240k XP/hr
BEST FOR

Maximum Woodcutting speed

ECONOMY

Consumes manipulation supplies

LOCATION

Two- or three-tree teak layouts

REQUIREMENTS

2-tick or 1.5-tick setup and practiced rhythm

INVENTORY / LOADOUT

Best axe, manipulation items, stamina/teleport as route requires

EXECUTION
  1. Set up the external attack or skilling cycle required by the chosen method.
  2. Click the teak on the correct tick and drop logs without breaking rhythm.
  3. Measure a ten-minute sample before projecting the full grind.

WOODCUTTING CALCULATOR

Turn a level goal into hours and materials.

Select a method for its realistic experience-rate band. Add XP and GP per action when you want an exact resource estimate for your chosen item.

XP REMAINING13,034,43113,034,431 total XP at level 99
ESTIMATED TIME144.8383.4 hrAt 34,00090,000 XP/hr
ACTIONS / UNITSAdd XP eachUse the optional field for exact materials
ESTIMATED BUDGETAdd GP eachGross inputs; resale and tax are not deducted

The level formula is exact. Time and budget are planning estimates: your equipment, banking, failures, attention, and live Grand Exchange prices determine the real result.

SETUP PROGRESSION

Upgrade the part that actually controls the rate.

StageSetupPriority
1–40Steel → mithril → adamant axeUse the best axe even before you can equip it.
40–60Rune axe and optional Forestry kitAxe tier is the highest-value upgrade.
60–71Dragon axe/felling axeUse special attack boosts where they cross useful thresholds.
71+Crystal axe/felling axe when charge cost is acceptableReserve expensive charges for methods where speed matters.

THE ROUTE

From level 1 to cape

1

1–35

Trees, oak, then willow

Follow dense tree patches near banks and upgrade axes immediately. The opening objective is access, not perfect efficiency. Use quests and inexpensive equipment to compress levels where possible, and avoid over-investing in a method you will outgrow quickly.
2

35–60

Teaks or Forestry hotspots

Teaks are faster; Forestry adds events and a more social loop. This is where the skill settles into a repeatable loop. Upgrade the parts of the setup that affect every action, measure a representative session, and keep travel or banking from becoming the hidden bottleneck.
3

60–90

Yews, teaks, or Blisterwood

Pick profit, speed, or low attention based on the session. At the mid-game checkpoint, compare the fastest route with account progress, useful outputs, and attention. A slightly slower method can be more efficient overall when it also supplies quests, diaries, or another skill.
4

90–99

Redwoods or efficient teaks

Redwoods are relaxed; tick-manipulated teaks are dramatically more active.Late-game training is a sustainability problem. Recheck prices and unlocks, alternate high-focus sessions with calmer ones, and choose a route you can repeat without turning the cape into a chore.
LOWER-INTENSITY ALTERNATIVE

Sulliuscep cutting offers fossils and a more involved route once Fossil Island is open.

LEVEL REFERENCE

Milestones worth planning around

These are decision points, not instructions to stop. Boostable requirements and quest gates can change when an unlock becomes usable.

LevelUnlockWhy it matters
15Oak treesA quick early improvement over normal trees.
30Willow treesDense, accessible early training.
35Teak treesA foundation of fast active training.
60Yew treesSlower experience with valuable logs.
75Magic treesHigh-value, low-success gathering.
90Redwood treesLong, low-attention chopping intervals.

QUEST ROUTING

Let account progress do part of the grind.

Quest experience is most valuable when it skips slow early methods or opens a training system you will keep using.

QUEST 1

Monk's Friend

A short early Woodcutting reward.

QUEST 2

Enlightened Journey

Unlocks balloon travel and additional log sinks.

QUEST 3

Song of the Elves

Opens Prifddinas and its convenient skilling options.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Woodcutting FAQ

Should I bank or drop logs?

Bank logs with a planned use or meaningful value. Drop low-value logs when experience is the actual goal and banking would dominate the session.

Is Forestry faster?

Forestry can improve the social tree experience and adds event rewards. Exact rates depend on the location, group, events, and whether you chase them.
