Yak-hide armour is a type of members only armour requiring 20 Defence to wear. It can be crafted from tanned yak hide or bought from other players. 3 Tanned yak hide are required to craft a full set.
The raw materials are dropped by yaks on the Fremennik Isles. Once a yak hide has been obtained, the player can take it to Thakkrad Sigmundson, who will tan them for a price. Three hides are required for the full set.
The armour is primarily used in the Fremennik Isles quest, during which it is described - along with the Neitiznot shield - as the traditional armour of Neitiznot.[1] Thakkrad suggests that the top is used to protect oneself from the trolls' granite clubs.[2]
Despite Thakkrad's claims, the armour does not offer special protection beyond its defensive bonuses, unlike the Neitiznot shield, which reduces the max hit of rocks thrown by the trolls.[3] The legs provide a ranged accuracy bonus, but the top does not. Yak-hide armour counts as warm clothing for the Wintertodt.
