Ticks are found while the player is fleeing through the forests of Vampyrium during The Blood Moon Rises. When chopping down darkwood trees, wrangling blood serpents, swinging with the serpent rope, or withdrawing supplies from the shelter remains, there is a chance that a tick will be added to the player's inventory, indicated by the message You feel something crawl into your inventory...
Carrying a tick in the inventory will slowly deal 1 hitpoint of damage until removed by left-clicking on it; the damage will not be increased if multiple ticks are present.
Upon leaving the area with the Blood serpents all ticks in the player's inventory are removed.
