An old note is a note obtained during Sins of the Father, from fallen shelves within the Arboretum, which instructs the player on how to give water to the Blisterwood Tree.
The note itself is a note from one Vampyre Sentinel to another, providing basic instructions on the water needed to cut the tree and collect sap. The amount of gallons of water required to make the tree healthy is unique to each player and is found from this note.

In case you're asked to look at that tree again, I've made some notes you may find useful.
I've spent many days trying to remove the tree to no success. However, I've found that while the tree can't be killed, it can at least be weakened. Without the right amount of water, the bark of the tree will grow so hard that it will become impossible to chop logs or collect sap.
There are two valves in the Arboretum that can be used to control how much water the tree receives. The northern one gives seven gallons of water per interval. The southern one gives four gallons of water per interval. For the tree to be healthy, it requires [amount] gallons of water.
