Oaknock the Engineer was a gnomish inventor and architect, famous for building most of the Tree Gnome Stronghold. One of the gnomes' great heroes, he developed many great technologies, such as the crystal saw^[1]. Oaknock died at some point before the present day of Gielinor.

Players first learn of Oaknock during The Eyes of Glouphrie, where we see his machine dispel an illusion created by Glouphrie the Untrusted.

Oaknock was one of King Healthorg's advisers during the Grand Migration of the gnomes at the end of the Fourth Age.

Before moving, the gnomes lived to the north of Baxtorian's elvish kingdom, and Oaknock was said to socialise with the elves, taking inspiration from their crystal singing for his inventions. The elves later travelled west due to The Great Divide, leaving their former territory unoccupied.

After the gnomes migrated to the area, they settled in what is now the Tree Gnome Stronghold. Oaknock was responsible for designing and building most of the base, and had a personal workshop, now known as Brimstail's cave. His Aspidistra plant is still present in that cave, alongside his elven-inspired crystal singing bowl and anti-illusion machine.

During Oaknock's lifetime, the Gnome Stronghold contained a wise silver spirit tree, named Argento. Following Argento's death, Oaknock blamed Glouphrie, and created an anti-illusion machine that revealed to the king that Glouphrie had indeed concealed Argento's death. Glouphrie and some of his companions were exiled from the stronghold, and are said to have founded a city called Arposandra.

Long after Oaknock's death, in 169 of the Fifth Age, the gnome mage Brimstail sought to uncover the history of Glouphrie and the gnomes. He enlists the player to learn this history from Hazelmere, but whilst doing so, an invisible intruder sabotages Oaknock's machine. Once the machine is repaired, the player learns that the various cute creatures around the stronghold (including inside the workshop) are actually Arposandran spies.

The crystal saw seed given to players by King Narnode Shareen was initially given by Oaknock to King Healthorg, and later passed down to subsequent kings. Using Oaknock's singing bowl, the seed can be transformed into a crystal saw.

Oaknock's son, Yewnock, is famous for inventing the gnome glider, based on the models Oaknock used to make.
