The coffin is on found the 2nd floor[UK]3rd floor[US] of the Paterdomus Temple. The coffin contains a vampyre that has been sealed inside since the Battle of the Salve,[1] and would recognise the smell of Drezel's blood due to him being a descendant of one of the Seven Priestly Warriors.[2] During the Priest in Peril quest, the player must use blessed water on the coffin to trap the vampyre, allowing Drezel to escape from his prison cell.
Attempting to open the coffin results in the player stating that it would not be a very good idea to do so.
Trivia
- In RuneScape 3, the vampyre inside the coffin is Ivandis Seergaze, who sealed himself in the coffin after he started turning into a vampyre, hoping the effects of the River Salve would kill him before he fully turned.
- This is not the case in Old School RuneScape, as the vampyre here is just one of many that were trapped on the opposite side of the River Salve but were unable to be killed, so they were instead placed in coffins and buried outside Paterdomus Temple.[1]
