The ancient casket is a quest item used only in X Marks the Spot. It is found after digging in Draynor Village's pig pen. It contains the treasure that Veos is seeking, and giving it to him will complete the quest.
When players dig it up, the chatbox will state "You dig up an Ancient Casket. As you do, you hear a faint whispering. You can't make out what it says though..." and your character will believe it was just the wind.
If players attempt to open the casket, they will say "I don't think Veos would want me to open his treasure. I should take it to him. If I remember right, he's docked at the northernmost pier in Port Sarim."
When asked about the contents of the casket, Veos will reply shiftily, saying "Oh err... Nothing important. Just something that might be of use to me back in Great Kourend."
Trivia
- The short story A Curious Client from the Kourend Chronicles adds additional context to this casket, revealing that Konar quo Maten paid to have the ancient casket taken from Great Kourend to be hidden on the mainland.
- The treasure inside the casket is an amulet which Veos wears after the quest. In doing so, this has allowed Xeric to possess Veos' body without him knowing.
- After digging up the casket, players will say “It must have been the wind”. This is a reference to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, in which NPCs will often say that after a player has entered stealth mode and become hidden.
